The Truth About Senate Bill 55

1024px-Flag_map_of_Alaska.svg

The truth is that Senate Bill 55 is a bill that would allow Optometrists to govern their own profession. Similar to other medical professionals such as nurse practitioners, dentists, and medical doctors. The bill does NOT provide Optometrists with the authority to perform surgery.

Unfortunately, the Ophthalmologist Society would like you to believe differently and they are supporting a communications effort, to include a local radio ad, that is misleading and inaccurate.  I’ve attached a PDF of the SB 55 below, read it for yourself. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. On behalf of all Optometrists, I’d like to ask you to contact your local representative and request a YES vote on SB 55.
